Weight: 21 pounds 3.5 ounces (58th percentile)
Head Circumference: 18.75 inches (95th percentile)
Milestones: Little Peanut is quickly becoming BIG trouble! He is now able to speed-crawl anywhere he pleases. He pulls up, cruises, and walks using anything he can hold or push. It would be very helpful if you could all pray for us now because i can't even imagine what will happen when he starts walking and *gulp* running. He also LOVES to climb. The height of a stair is about as much as he can do so far, but he thinks it's hilarious if we lay in the floor and let him crawl over us like we're roadkill. He now recognizes that i am his "Mama" and Jake is his "Dada" and he will turn his head to look at us when asked "Where is mama/dada?" He also has started saying "Mama, mamamamamama" to me and it just melts my heart. I'm fairly certain he knows this and is secretly using it to manipulate me but i don't mind because it's so darn cute. He can wave, bang two objects together (or slap his hand on the crib rail to let us know it's time to get up), imitate sounds, flirt, and generally arrange things so that he gets whatever he wants. But he's not at all spoiled.
Favorites: Flirting with girls (especially blondes), dumping out the cat water all over the floor and playing in it, walking up and down the hall with his dinosaur, the cats
Sounds: Ryan can now imitate most "sounds" we make. Last night he was playing with the fan when i did the grunty "nuh-uh" sound. He paused a second, looked at me, and growled it back! He does the same thing with blowing raspberries, smacking sounds, pig snorts, etc.
Foods: Well that changed fast! Ryan now eats real food. We try to give him little bits of whatever we are eating and have just recently given him meat. He eats so well now! Yesterday he downed two whole peaches without hesitation. He particularly loves Williamson Brothers BBQ. A picture of his very first burger is below. Daddy made it Peanut-sized.
Hours I Let Mommy Sleep: He's currently a perfect sleeper. He sleeps 11-12 hours at night and has a very predictable 2 nap schedule so that it makes planning things a little easier. He will only sleep at home in his crib, though, so that throws a wrench in things sometimes.
Other News: Ryan's 9 month checkup was yesterday and it went pretty well. He only had one vaccine and he cried for a minute but apple juice fixed that pretty fast. He actually got the most upset when the doctor was trying to look in his mouth and ears because we had to hold him still and he *hates* being held down and messing with his face. He wants to do everything himself now. His weight percentile actually dropped a lot but the doctor didn't seem concerned and his head is still big but the doctor just said we'll see how it is at his next appointment. Ryan has such a little personality now and cracks me up all the time. I love this age and can't wait to see how much he changes by next month. ;)

I'm pretty sure that it all goes downhill from here. He gets it to more stuff and then looks all cute and gets away with it.
ReplyDeleteDo you have to fill out those little questionnaires at the Doctor's office giving an update on where Ryan is at developmentally?
I'm curious to know where he falls. It sounds like he is ahead of the curve on most all accounts but I don't remember what 9 month olds are supposed to do on average.
Yeah i'm not enjoying this whole "not understanding discipline" (or even just NO) and lack of impulse control stuff. The climbing is getting out of hand...he's already crawled into the fire place (and fallen out of it) 3 times.
ReplyDeleteThis 9 month visit was the first time i had to fill out a paper about "Any concerns about behavioral development?" etc. But every visit the nurse goes through what should/shouldn't be happening at this age and tons of "Is he crawling? Climbing? Doing jumping jacks? Reciting Shakespeare?" so i guess they do it verbally mostly and discuss everything with you.
I like to think he's ahead of the curve but on my September board there were babies crawling a month before him and then some that still can't sit up straight. He does do a lot of things earlier than most (waving, sippy cup, self-feeding) but then other things he's not early but i guess not really late on yet (clapping, pointing).

In my experience, the climbing thing stays out of hand. The problem with discipline is the fact that no or an explanation doesn't work. It is just repetition. Take him off the fire place about 2000 times and then he might not get on the fireplace.
ReplyDeleteAt this age, they don't learn after bonking their head on something. They just keep trying to do it. While perseverance is an admirable trait, trying to do something that has a high probability to result in injury isn't that great.
This might not be a really big accomplishment but I think Ryan is ahead of Lucas developmentally. At least he seems to be doing social things faster and I think he is about the same if not ahead of Lucas on the developmental milestones.
At this point though my checklist is down to two choices. Is Lucas retarded? No. Okay, no reason to talk to the Doctor. And I really can't remember anything past a month ago anymore. I blame lack of sleep. My long term memory sucked anyway but now I don't remember anything longer than I have to.
