All In A Day's Work

Today was.....random. Well yesterday I decided to go through Jake's closet because it hasn't been cleaned out since high school either. He threw *the* biggest tantrum ever. I swear it was worse than the terrible twos. God forbid i throw away a shirt he's had since 1999 that he's never going to wear again. Anyway, it took awhile but i ended up with four more bags of clothes and we dropped them off after frisbee-golf yesterday.

So then today as i was getting ready my kitty comes trotting up to me.....and drops a dead bird at my feet. I swear she looked up at me and smiled. She was sooo proud of her present. Of course i started screaming for Jake to come and take it away. Dala was extremely distraught when it suddenly disappeared. She still peeks under the bed trying to find it.

I decided to water all my flowers and such since my peach tree was starting to look wilty. I do have several peaches growing on it, but they're in the tiny baby stage. I doubt they'll get big enough to eat before squirrels and birds get to them, but i'm keeping an eye out. Anyway, in the process i noticed that we have damn carpenter bees again. These bees are big and fat like bumblebees but they chew perfectly circular holes in wood and lay eggs. The wood, of course, being my front porch. Last year they did the same thing to the board thingies above the garage door and woodpeckers went nuts trying to get them and totally wrecked the wood. (Luckily i have my own personal handyman for such things!) Anyway, we need to get stuff to kill the eggs before the woodpeckers find them.

Finally, as i was making dinner i managed to nearly cut off the tip of my pinkie finger. I was cutting an onion, the knife went through the onion and sliced from the side of my finger down to the fingernail. After i got it to stop bleeding i pulled it apart to see how deep it went (to see if i needed stitches) and came pretty close to passing out at the sight of it. Good thing i didn't try to be a doctor! I ended up using a butterfly bandage 'cuz i didn't feel like going to the hospital for a pinkie finger. Hope it works... Jenn came over and we had dinner and TV night.

I Still <3 Teeny-Bopper Movies

Today I met Kristie at IHOP for lunch, where she met the waiter i mentioned earlier. She immediately claimed him as her future husband and didn't stop staring at him the entire time we were there. As i mentioned before, he's super hot!

After lunch we went to see "17 Again." This is the new Zac Efron movie that i was embarrassed to be buying a ticket for. As it turns out the movie was actually really, really good. It made me feel old, though, because Matthew Perry looked so old and i couldn't exactly drool over highschool-age guys. It made me really miss being in high school too. *sigh* I guess it doesn't help that i also want to see the new Hannah Montana movie.

On the way home i made a snap decision. What a perfect day for Frisbee-Golf! Unfortunately Kristie is lame and nobody else answered their phones so i didn't get to go. I ended up laying on the back porch and reading a couple chapters of my Mary Higgins Clark book before deciding to start the mounds of house-cleaning i have to do. I went through my closet and was surprised not to find any moths since it hasn't been cleaned out since high school. I ended up with FIVE trash bags full of clothes to donate. And that's just my closet, i still haven't been through Jake's. I finagled Jenn into going with me to Goodwill and we dropped off the clothes, then came back home and made some spaghetti and cookies. Ever since then i've been researching how to grow a vegetable garden. I really wanted to grow some Vidalia onions but apparently you can't buy the seeds for those because you can only grow them in Vidalia, GA. Lame!

Saturday

Today Jake and I went to Red Top Mountain. We got lost at first because parks are awful at providing directions, but we ended up playing 2 rounds of Mini Golf. The course hadn't been swept, so there were little pollen thingies all over the course, but oh well, it was only $3. Jake kicked my butt (of course.) He won by 13 points...

When we got home Jenn came over to help me with dinner. Jake made BBQ Chicken and we had green bean casserole, corn-on-the-cob, and cookies! Here's Jenn and I snapping the fresh green beans. (Ally if you tell Jenn about this picture i'll kill you!) Jenn told me about her sister Amy's vegetable garden and it made me want to try growing my own veggies. We used to have a small veggie garden at my dad's house when he lived in Kennesaw, but at the time i was a bratty teenager and didn't care anything about eating my veggies. I did try to grow watermelons at the time but they never got bigger than a grapefruit. Probably because i only visited them about once a month, but let's not point fingers.

Glowing Puppy

They make glowing puppies now?! If they're anything like the cool neon fish i'm totally going to have to get me one. Wouldn't it be cool if Dala was a glow-cat and each of her colors would glow different?

I Made It!

Yay! I'm officially on vacation! After the horrid weekend at work the weekdays actually went really well. We were slammed, but it wasn't nearly as bad because we had plenty of tech help. In short...it's all Jonathan's fault! :P

Tonight some of us girls went to IHOP after work (at 11pm) to unwind after a long week. My only regret is not getting coffee :) I think we're going to try to make it a weekly occurrence. It's a good way to unwind and vent all at the same time. Cute model guy wasn't there tonight. I temporarily lost my phone in the mix. After searching my car everywhere I finally came to the conclusion that i must have left it at work. So after IHOP i went back to work at midnight and had to unarm the alarm. Which, of course, had the alarm company calling immediately. I had to explain to them that i wasn't robbing the place. I finally found my phone stuck in the middle of the narcotics book inside the narcotics cabinet. That one was all Jake's fault. I had been writing an order when Jake called and i must have set the phone down on the counter and it got stuck inside the book. Funny how men always seem to be at the root of life's problems...

Frisbee Golf

I've been enjoying my 2 days off immensely. I did a bunch of errands i've been putting off yesterday, and Jake and I went to IHOP for the first time in a long time. (Yum! I can't wait for them to finish building the one in Canton) Our waiter was really hot in that Abercrombie & Fitch type way, and super nice. Seriously, we were both wondering how he ended up at IHOP rather than modeling. We ended up at the new shopping center in Canton. It's really nice, so we went to check out a few of the new stores we haven't been in. I bought some Frisbee Golf discs and we went to the park and played the Front 9. Jenn came over and we watched Castle and had our new nightly ritual of Chocolate Chip cookies and milk. Except that now all the cookies are gone. (Don't tell Jenn!)

I bought a ton of suspense books (mostly Mary Higgins Clark), although i have no idea when i'll have time to read them. Today we went to the park again because it was a gorgeous spring day. Unfortunately it was extremely windy so it wasn't my best game. I have this new not-so-secret fear that a tree is going to fall on my house. Mainly because a lot of trees in the woods surrounding my house have fallen. So i guess it's not an irrational fear. I have to work 12 hour shifts the next 2 days and i'm dreading it. I feel really bad for our full-time techs that are working shorter shifts 5 days in a row. I dunno what i'd do if i didn't get a break every few days. Hopefully i'll still be alive on Friday to enjoy my vacation. Speaking of which, i really need to plan that out. Anyone up for Renn Fest?

Vent

I'm so stressed out! The new computer system seemed to be going a lot more smoothly than predicted. At least until the last 2 hours today. OMG it sucked. Plus i stayed overtime (no pay for that, fun) for an extra 2 hours. Which adds up to a fun-filled 12 hour workday with no break. I dunno what the hell happened but it just completely blew up in our faces. There was a line wrapped around the corner and at least 20 prescriptions that needed to be typed, filled, and checked at closing.....and that's not including the 10 or so people I had to turn away that last hour. So i stayed 2 hours after we closed to try to get caught up typing all those scripts so we wouldn't be swamped first thing in the morning.

I really need to learn better stress management, 'cuz i came pretty close to either having a nervous breakdown or just plain old breaking things. Now i feel bad because i totally took out all my anger on Jake. Thank God i have a vacation coming up. Things better smooth out soon because i most definitely can't keep up this pace. [/end vent]

Look What Jake Found

He tried to get me to kiss it but i wouldn't. Froggy was found while cutting grass....sadly, i also discovered what looks to be froggy's companion (or what was left of him.)

Narrowly Avoided This One!

On my way home from work Ally was distracting me by telling me all about Baby Lucas' visiting schedule. There's a road where i stop at a stop sign, then turn left onto Road #2 where there is another immediate stop sign. Apparently I stopped completely at the first stop sign but pulled off a rolling stop at the second. The cop put me through all the motions: flashing blue lights, flashlight in my face, license and insurance. She saw that i still have my "memento" license from a decade ago that says "Under 21" all over it. I got chastised for that and she said i have to destroy it because it's illegal to have 2 licenses.

When she asked why I stopped at Stop Sign #1 but not Stop Sign #2 i didn't know what to say. I *almost* told her about the law where Stop Signs with white borders are optional...but i didn't think she'd like me correcting her. I also thought better of telling her I obviously didn't *see* her or I would have been sure to stop. Anyway, she ended up being very nice after I told her I was sorry and she let me off with a warning. Thank goodness! My insurance policy is about to renew.

Signs You're Getting Old

Jake played Ultimate Frisbee for the first time in a long time the other day. He used to play several times a week and would dive in the mud to catch it and come home with scrapes and bleeding all over the place. Then he'd get up and do it again the next day. I dunno if it's because he played just as hard Thursday with no "warm-up" or if he's really just getting old but...he hasn't been able to move since Thursday night! He's so stiff and sore that he can't do simple bending things like feeding the cats or putting on socks. Poor old Jakey. :P

On a side note: i find it funny that Ally spends hours preparing spreadsheets to figure out the best car to buy, but then entrusts the baby room to Jake. Maybe it's just my OCD, but....she let Jake pick out a ceiling fan. The only instructions were "small and white." She got what she wanted i guess...except the "reversible" blades are bright crayon colors on the other side! LOL

First 12 Hour Shift

It went way better than expected. It wasn't really stressful at all today, and that totally rocked. Of course, we haven't started the new computer system yet (Next week...yikes!) and it's Spring Break (which is always slower) but i'll take whatever i can get! I'm really hoping that this new computer system will be nothing like i've imagined (fat chance, i've heard stories from all the other stores) or that we'll get the hang of it and it won't be so bad after a week or so. (We're smart cookies, it could totally happen!)

Anakin seems to be fine now. We got him some special canned food that helps dissolve the stones (supposedly...i think it's just a scheme to make me pay $3 a can) so we're feeding him the special stuff in the morning and his coveted Fancy Feast at night. We'll see how long he lasts this time.

Tonight Jenn and Jake made the most awesomest dinner EVER. Jake made Chicken Parmesan (yum!) and Jenn made her heavenly green bean casserole. THEN for dessert she made homemade fudge! It was sooooooo good. Tomorrow night she's making Meatloaf and we're gonna watch The Mentalist!! I'm so happy!!!! It's really exciting to come home from a long day at work and have awesome homecooked meals. If Ally moved in across the street she would totally be invited to these yumfests....(maybe...i would have to consider the ramifications of less green bean casserole and fudge for myself):P

ER Vet

Poor Anakin. This was his 3rd trip to the ER for the same problem. He keeps getting these crystals that cause a urinary blockage (boys i'm sure you can imagine how painful that would be.) It seems to happen about once a year, but this time it's probably our fault.

The first time he got the whole nine yards....catheter, kept in the ER for 3 days, cone on his head....he was so pitiful and wouldn't eat a thing. It was awful. Last year he got another blockage but right before they were about to catheterize him he was able to pass it and so it was no big deal. This time we opted to catheterize him to unblock it, but then to remove it and take him home (rather than leave him at the vet for 3 days.) I'm really hoping he doesn't re-block, but after that first time seeing how absolutely pitiful he was, i couldn't leave him alone again. He's supposed to be on a strictly wet food diet but we've gotten lazy and have been giving him dry food in the mornings, so we're going to try to go back to the "special diet" canned food and see if we can prevent it from happening again. If all else fails we may have to get him a surgery that basically turns him into a little girl kitty.....i really hope we don't have to do that. We were up 'til 6am so I am now on my way to take a nap!

Things I Learned on Saturday

Pregnant women, by some miracle, can still sit cross-legged....

Frisbee-golf is actually pretty fun!

....and i'm not half-bad at it.

This is what i'd look like with really long legs

Pics for Mom

Ok, you've been asking me for pictures again...here's the latest. Look how much prettier the new fescue grass is instead of zoysia! You can also play "Where's Dala?" in many of the shots.

April Fools

I had a ton of pranks played on me yesterday! By far the best was the one Cassandra stayed up until 5am planning with Reece. So yesterday i get a call at work and I pick it up and hear a recording saying something about Honda. We're slammed and recorded messages are almost always sales calls so i immediately hang up the phone. When i get home i have a message on my phone. It says there's some type of massive recall on Hondas from '94 to '05 and to contact Hennessy Honda (my nearest Honda dealer) to get my car inspected. It was very detailed, gave the phone number to Hennessy and everything! They really had me going....until both Cassandra AND Reece asked me what was wrong with my car. :P I have no idea all the details but it must have taken a ton of work and Cassandra must have been so mad when i hung up on it at work! LOL

I had taped the sprayer handle at the kitchen sink down so Jake would get soaked when he turned the water on....When i got home there was a wad of tape and a "Nice Try" note. So i go to turn on the water....and get soaked. And then later i'm in the bathroom and turn on the water....and get soaked. It made me giggle. THEN i got to get on my computer and my mouse won't work because somebody taped the sensor. And when i DO get it working there's a popup from Windows Defender saying a Trojan virus has been blocked...but nothing on my desktop will work! That was Jake using his awesome new photoshop software to make a "fake" Desktop. It all cracked me up. :)

Work Changes

Ok so maybe things at work are going to change. This could either go really well or horribly wrong. Rather than 10 hour shifts we're talking about going to 12 hour shifts and working a day less. If the extra hours make it less stressful it will be awesome. If it's just as bad as before AND i'm working 12 hours i don't know what i'll do. Here's hoping!
