Todd the Toad

As i said before, interesting things happen on our midnight (or later) walks. Yesterday it rained toad frogs. (And i'm going to call them toad frogs because they're all frogs to me but every time i say frog Jake has to correct me and say it's a toad) So we're walking along and i see an itty-bitty toad frog and point it out to Jake. Two steps later there's another....then another...then another! And these were tiny! I've never seen them so small, all the ones i usually see have big old fat beer bellies. We must have chased at least 10 off the road so they wouldn't get squished. They were all in a general area so Jake thinks they must have been born nearby, but they looked older than newborns.

Jake picked up one baby toad frog and carried it the *entire* walk. It peed on him, but he still carried it home. We played around with it and took some pictures before releasing it. Then when i went to the computer to review the pictures they were missing. Nowhere to be found on the SD card or the camera's internal memory. I had *just* reviewed them on the camera before taking the SD card out! I searched every different way i knew how to see if they were somehow hidden or stored differently on the card or something but they were just completely missing (although the file numbers show they had indeed existed) Somehow they got erased. So i did what any sensible person would do. At almost 2am we went back outside and got another one so i could take pictures for my blog. On the way back in we found the original Todd the Toad in the driveway so we scooped him up and took pictures of both. After our fun we re-released them outside. There was a giant toad frog just sitting there too! Since it took me two trips and lots of frustration you'll get plenty of frog pics to enjoy.

Not sure if Todd the Toad was straight or gay because neither of our kisses turned him into a prince...

Marriage and the Bachelorette

This weekend Kellye got married! Her wedding gown was GORGEOUS. Here are some pictures of the pharmacy girls.

Today we had a Bachelorette party of sorts. What better bachelorette party than a group of girls watching the TV show and gossiping about the ensuing drama? Kristie even had a real-life connection to the ex-girlfriend of one of the guys on the show. Oh my!

Snakes on a Street

I've decided snakes are my absolute worst fear in the creepy-crawly category. Everything about them gives me the heeby-jeebies. The way they move, the hissing sound they make, the freaky tongues, the way they feel.....not to mention the strangling, venom, rattles, and other such pleasantries that some species provide. If i was laying in bed and a spider ran across me I would definitely freak out but i'd survive. If there were a snake in my bed i'd have a heart attack on the spot. That almost happened when Dala brought that snake inside and it was under the couch. I've never moved so fast in my life and i'm pretty sure my heart stopped for a moment. For months i wouldn't sit on the couch without looking under it first. I was certain there was a nest of them under there.

Yesterday we went on our nightly walk. As usual we see interesting and random things. Every night we're greeted by Buster (or at least that's what i've named him), the tuxedo kitty down the street. More often than not we come across at least one frog (Jake says they're toads but they're all frogs to me). But last night i had the pleasure of almost stepping on a freaking snake. I promptly yelped and jumped toward Jake but the snake didn't seem to care. It was busy warming itself in the middle of the road. It was about 2 feet long (which is a big snake for this area!) and eventually slithered off into the sewer when my freak-out interrupted his nap. All the ones i've seen previously have been much smaller so seeing one this big has got my skin crawling. Ewww ewww eww! I'm going to have nightmares for a month.

To illustrate check out this National Geographic picture of what happens when a Florida Everglades python kills and tries to swallow an alligator whole.

Work Shenanigans

I had to go allll the way to Northlake to complete our required CPR training. I hate having to drive all that way for stuff, but since Dad also had to go i made him drive. This is a crappy cell phone pic of him giving CPR. During the part where you're supposed to shake the victim and ask "Are you ok?" to assess responsiveness he instead slapped the dummy across the face. Here he's smothering the dummy with a protective thingy. They're to protect the CPR giver from getting diseases. But since you wouldn't randomly have these laying around when someone collapses (or the time to get one if you did) of course my dad has to ask: "So if it's a known AIDS patient how do i decide which tech gets to do the breathing part?"

Friday night (July 3rd) was a slow day at work because the doctors were closed all day and people were out of town. Amanda and I made the best of it by watching Wild Hogs on her laptop. The first and last time we'll ever be slow enough to do that...

And finally we have to have relaxation time! Amanda comes over every Monday and brings pizza and we watch the Bachelorette. This week she won over the kitties too. Reality TV competitions are so much more fun to watch with company.

Granny Louise

Jake's Granny passed away at 2am on July 4th. She will be greatly missed because she was most definitley the ultimate grandmother. She lived to be 94 and was able to meet several great-grandchildren. The funeral was today and it was, of course, sad, but i got to see a lot of family i don't get to see often enough. Two of his cousins just had babies and they were so cute! We also found out Jake's brother is moving back to Ellijay next week. Jake seemed really happy about that because they're like twins (looks and personality) born 12 years apart. Jake was asked to be a pallbearer (which he did even though he disliked the idea) so we had to get him a new suit jacket. Jake and his brother came *this close* to picking out the exact same jacket without knowing it. Jake's new jacket looks awesome on him and i told him he has to wear it every day. Somehow i don't think that's going to happen though.

The Good and The Bad

I'm currently watching Dala pace back and forth around Jake trying to jump in his lap or onto the computer desk because she is frantically trying to get at the beef jerky. It's so funny! Her eyes are huge. The problem is that beef jerky is super tough (or so i hear, that stuff is nasty) so Jake is actually *chewing* little pieces before he gives it to her. Ewww! It's like watching a bird feed it's babies.

On a sad note Jake's Granny isn't doing well at all. She had a heart attack a month or so ago and since she's 94 she hasn't been strong enough for them to do surgery or anything to unblock clogged arteries. So today they moved her to hospice. :(
