How Many Pictures Does It Take...

...to get just ONE good shot? A bunch when your little monkey makes faces all the time!

10 Months

Height: 29.5 inches (72nd percentile)
Weight: 22 pounds 4 ounces (64th percentile)
Head Circumference: 18.9 inches (96th percentile)
Milestones: In addition to speed-crawling he now likes to pull up to standing and then let go and practice balancing all by himself (Look ma, no hands!) and he can then slowly lower into a squat or sitting position. Did i mention babies are incredibly strong? I'm pretty sure *i* don't even have the leg muscles to do that without shaking...but that isn't really saying much. He took 3 little steps yesterday! So far that seems to be a one-time thing, but i'm both excited and dreading his upcoming ability to walk. He can walk pretty fast already if we're holding his hand, so i don't think it'll be too much longer. He reaches for things he wants and is starting to use a single-finger point, mostly at pictures in books. He is also starting to understand construction rather than just destruction. When he dumps his blocks all over the floor he will pick up one or two and put them back in the bucket before his ADD sets in and he wanders off or finds something else to entertain him. Ryan is a HUGE daddy's boy. Baby hugs cause my heart to melt.
Favorites: Daddy and Mommy, practicing standing by himself over and over and over, climbing over EVERYTHING, exploring EVERYWHERE, and generally getting into lots of mischief. Do not leave him alone for a second!
Sounds: My little monkey is starting to understand some words now methinks. Whenever we say "bye" or "bye-bye" he immediately looks toward the front door and starts waving or will wave bye-bye to us. (He also starts waving bye when he wants us to leave him alone or stop doing something...as in GO AWAY! but that's a different story) He recognizes the word cat and has attempted to say it to Dala but it usually comes out as "At!" or "Aah!" He knows Mama and Dada but still says them somewhat randomly.
Foods: Peanut is becoming a picky eater at just 10 months old! He all but refuses to let us feed him anymore, so baby food is now completely out of the picture. Big boys get to feed themselves! Thankfully he is a big fan of veggies and fruit, but whenever we introduce something new he will stick it in his mouth, make a face, then reach up and pull it out so that he can look at it. At which point he either decides to go ahead and eat it...or toss it over the side of the highchair onto the floor for Mommy to clean up. Cantaloupe is not his favorite, but he LOVES green beans and peaches. Mexican and BBQ are his restaurants of choice.
Hours I Let Mommy Sleep: Now that Ryan has some separation anxiety we're having a little bit of trouble with sleep. If he isn't tired enough to go right to sleep at bedtime he will no longer calmly play in his crib until he drifts off. He will stand up and cry hysterically. And then of course it takes forever to calm him down and get him to sleep. Luckily we've only had a couple of those nights and nap times are (so far) unaffected.
Other News: Our basement room is almost finished! Joel did an amazing job and we love, love, love it. The monkey cave is especially cool. Later this week the carpet will be installed and the final coat of paint will be on and i will post some pictures. Should we make this a computer/play room or a bedroom??

Monkey Cave!

We're finally finishing a basement room! I'm so excited! We could really use some extra space, especially because of Trouble like this:

So since we have run out of space for my little Peanut and his kingdom of stuff we are now working on turning part of the basement into a bedroom...or playroom...or computer room...i really have no idea what exactly it will be yet. However, my absolute favorite part is the "Monkey Cave" that we're building. It is sooooo neat and i think Ryan will really love having a little hideaway. Plus i can always get a deadbolt and lock him in there when he won't behave :P

9 Months

Height: 29 inches (71st percentile)
Weight: 21 pounds 3.5 ounces (58th percentile)
Head Circumference: 18.75 inches (95th percentile)
Milestones: Little Peanut is quickly becoming BIG trouble! He is now able to speed-crawl anywhere he pleases. He pulls up, cruises, and walks using anything he can hold or push. It would be very helpful if you could all pray for us now because i can't even imagine what will happen when he starts walking and *gulp* running. He also LOVES to climb. The height of a stair is about as much as he can do so far, but he thinks it's hilarious if we lay in the floor and let him crawl over us like we're roadkill. He now recognizes that i am his "Mama" and Jake is his "Dada" and he will turn his head to look at us when asked "Where is mama/dada?" He also has started saying "Mama, mamamamamama" to me and it just melts my heart. I'm fairly certain he knows this and is secretly using it to manipulate me but i don't mind because it's so darn cute. He can wave, bang two objects together (or slap his hand on the crib rail to let us know it's time to get up), imitate sounds, flirt, and generally arrange things so that he gets whatever he wants. But he's not at all spoiled.
Favorites: Flirting with girls (especially blondes), dumping out the cat water all over the floor and playing in it, walking up and down the hall with his dinosaur, the cats
Sounds: Ryan can now imitate most "sounds" we make. Last night he was playing with the fan when i did the grunty "nuh-uh" sound. He paused a second, looked at me, and growled it back! He does the same thing with blowing raspberries, smacking sounds, pig snorts, etc.
Foods: Well that changed fast! Ryan now eats real food. We try to give him little bits of whatever we are eating and have just recently given him meat. He eats so well now! Yesterday he downed two whole peaches without hesitation. He particularly loves Williamson Brothers BBQ. A picture of his very first burger is below. Daddy made it Peanut-sized.
Hours I Let Mommy Sleep: He's currently a perfect sleeper. He sleeps 11-12 hours at night and has a very predictable 2 nap schedule so that it makes planning things a little easier. He will only sleep at home in his crib, though, so that throws a wrench in things sometimes.
Other News: Ryan's 9 month checkup was yesterday and it went pretty well. He only had one vaccine and he cried for a minute but apple juice fixed that pretty fast. He actually got the most upset when the doctor was trying to look in his mouth and ears because we had to hold him still and he *hates* being held down and messing with his face. He wants to do everything himself now. His weight percentile actually dropped a lot but the doctor didn't seem concerned and his head is still big but the doctor just said we'll see how it is at his next appointment. Ryan has such a little personality now and cracks me up all the time. I love this age and can't wait to see how much he changes by next month. ;)
